Understanding the Value of the Tattoo Design Process

Every piece of art that emerges from Ink & Dagger Tattoo is a testimony to an idea, an emotion, and a journey. Ensuring that the vision of our clients is perfectly portrayed is a task we approach with dedication and passion. One aspect that plays a critical role in this process is the preliminary design, and here's why it's so essential:

The Intensive Labor Behind the Design: Tattoo designs, especially ones that are fully rendered, colored in, and placed realistically on a mockup photo of the client’s body part, demand substantial time and effort. For an artist like me, it's not just a preliminary step but a necessary and integral part of the process. Such intensive designs lead to better outcomes for both the artist and the client.

The Real Cost of Free Design: In the early days of my career, I didn't charge separately for this exhaustive design process. It might seem like a small thing, but this meant I was working double-time, designing, and then tattooing, without any compensation for the former. This not only affected my family and personal time but was a strain on my mental well-being. I was caught in an exhaustive loop, burning the candle at both ends.

Recognizing the Value of the Design: It was a revelation to realize that the design phase, for many, holds as much value as the tattoo itself. Charging for the tattoo design allowed me to appreciate my work's worth and gave me the bandwidth to invest quality time in each design.

Options for Every Client: We also understand that not every client wishes to be heavily involved in the design process. For them, we have an array of ready-to-go flash or pre-drawn designs. Our One Shot Wall designs are also available for those who prefer quick choices. At Ink & Dagger, we have curated options to cater to every client's unique requirements.
